The world today faces many complex challenges: climate change, food, water, and energy insecurity, civil conflict, natural disasters, rapid urbanization and increased demand for natural resources. Several of these challenges have a land dimension where unequal access to land, the insecurity of land tenure, sustainable land use or weak institutions play a role in exacerbating them. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to reducing poverty and sharing prosperity, an integrated system for managing resources and improving land governance that anchored in the genuine participation of stakeholders is crucial.
True to this year’s theme, ‘Catalyzing Innovation,’ the 20th Annual World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty, happening in Washington, DC from March 25th to 29th, is an opportunity for over 1,500 participants from governments, academia, civil society, and the private sector to gather and discuss the latest research, institutional innovations and best practices for land governance around the world.
