Feeding Public Policies

Donostia, Spain

This event is the First International Seminar on Local Public Policies for Food Sovereignty.

Under the banner, “Feeding Public Policies” we  seek to open a space for international debate and alliance building in order to promote public policies that contribute to food sovereignty.

We understand the idea of public as a space to be collectively appropriated, and public policies as a tool for promoting social transformation, ensuring equity among different individuals and groups. Grounded in the political proposal that is food sovereignty, we envision a broad movement, where each actor (public institutions, social movements, farmers, community groups, consumers, etc.) can contribute to the construction of other economic, social, and food systems, that are more sustainable and just.Under the banner, “Feeding Public Policies” we  seek to open a space for international debate and alliance building in order to promote public policies that contribute to food sovereignty.

This seminar seeks to have an international conversation about the following general questions:

  • What elements are important in the content of local public policies in order to promote food sovereignty?
  • How do we kickstart similar processes in public institutions, with the participation of civil society and peasant organizations?
  • What kind of experiences are already underway, from which we can learn?
  • What alliances can we build and/or strengthen with other sectors and agendas related to social transformation, where the wellbeing of people and communities is prioritized over the interests of private companies and corporations?
