Yesterday marked the beginning of World Water Week. Hosted by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the annual event provides a forum to exchange views, experiences and practices between the scientific, business, policy and civic communities. It focuses on new thinking and positive action toward water-related challenges and their impact on the world’s environment, health, climate, economic and poverty reduction agendas. As mentioned before on the Blog, this year’s World Water Week has a thematic focus on Water and Food Security. SIWI recognizes how water scarcity can adversely affect food production and farmers. Topics include everything from water efficiency in food production to securing water and food security in an urbanizing world.
Sessions during the day are webcast live (see below), and the programme is available on the website.
Finally, yesterday Conservation International hosted a panel discussion side event on integrated landscape approaches as part of the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative. The event titled ‘Simplifying Integrated Agricultural Landscapes: Landscapes for People Food & Nature Storybook’, aimed to highlight the strategies and challenges of communicating integrated approaches to non-technical decision-makers. Powerpoint presentations are available online.
