In preparation for the Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security, and Climate Change taking place in Hanoi this week, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) released a background paper on recent experiences with climate-smart agriculture. In particular, it highlights the necessary elements for implementing a climate-smart strategy, including the institutions and policies, as well as indicators to measure improvement over a baseline. Case studies, from countries such as Malawi and Vietnam, help illustrate how institutions, financing, and tools can play a crucial role in implementing climate-smart agriculture.
