Five resources to help you get climate-smart this World Food Day

A changing climate has put agricultural landscapes at risk, but integrated solutions hold the promise of adaptation and mitigation.

These five resources are a great start to understanding what a climate-smart food system will look like. Share them using the hashtag #WFD2016.

This beautifully-designed website provides a very comprehensive introduction to the concept and practice of climate-smart agriculture. As site puts it, “This site is your gateway to implementing climate-smart agriculture. It will help you get started and guide you right through to implementation on the ground, connecting you with all the resources you need to dig deeper.”

2. Climate-Smart Landscapes: Multifunctionality in Practice

This book from the World Agroforestry Centre clearly demonstrates, through its 27 chapters full of case studies and analysis, what a climate-smart landscape is, what characteristics they share, and how they increase resilience to climate change while reducing carbon emissions or even sequestering a net amount of carbon.

3. Climate-Smart Landscapes: Opportunities and challenges for integrating adaptation and mitigation in tropical agriculture

This journal article co-authored by 10 researchers all associated with LPFN partner organizations, led by Conservation International’s Celia Harvey, specifically establishes that tropical agricultural systems can provide both mitigation and adaptation benefits if they are designed and managed appropriately.
