Community-based Climate Change Education in Mexico

Training future leaders for the challenges ahead

(En español abajo)

The youth of today are inheriting a world that is quickly changing and it is evident that the education offered to prior generations will no longer adequately prepare today’s students for the challenges that lie ahead.

The Rainforest Alliance is working to address these challenges by designing innovative, hands-on, interdisciplinary education tools that tackle environmental challenges such as deforestation, biodiversity loss and climate change. Using this curricula, they are helping build the capacity of youth and teacher leaders in Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico.

Education Program Manager, Maria Ghiso, will discuss the Rainforest Alliance’s work in Mexico to prepare the next generation of community leaders and environmental stewards to confront the challenges of climate change. As manager of the education program, Ghiso has developed educational tools that feature global case studies of sustainability and are available for free on the Rainforest Alliance Learning Site.
