The impacts of commodity production have been far reaching, but their solutions can be, too

Commodities like coffee, rice, tea, and oil palm are enjoyed worldwide, but have come at a high environmental cost for East and Southeast Asia, with impacts on health, local economies and critical natural resources. While widespread innovations in agri-environmental policy have taken root in the region, there is a gap between environmental aspirations and applications. The countries of the region are well-positioned to strengthen the impact of such efforts through integrated strategies to make commodity agriculture environmentally sustainable.

To launch the conversation, experts will give their insights

In this launch and round table discussion, leading experts in environmental sustainability and agricultural development will discuss the various roles policymakers can play, and policy instruments they can use, to make environmental stewardship a regional reality in Asia, and beyond.

Who?

Speakers will include:

Sara J. Scherr, EcoAgriculture Partners
Steven M. Jaffee, The World Bank
John Buchanan, Conservation International
Bruce Wise, International Finance Corporation

A third discussant will be announced shortly.
