AWF African Heartlands

AWF works to improve the lives of Africans and wildlife and help Africans chart a course toward a sustainable future. The African Heartlands network includes priority landscapes in Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

COMDEKS – Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative

COMDEKS provides small grants to local community organizations to develop sound biodiversity management and sustainable livelihood activities in order to maintain, rebuild, and revitalize socio-ecological production landscape and seascapes. COMDEKS has projects in Brazil, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Fiji, India, Malawi, Nepal, Slovakia, Turkey, Bhutan, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Mongolia, Namibia and Niger.

GIAHS – Globally Important Agricultural Heritages Sites

The GIAHS Initiative promotes public understanding, awareness, national and international recognition of Agricultural Heritage systems. The GIAHS initiative has project interventions in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic), Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Turkey.

GPFLR – Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration

The GPFLR unites governments, organisations and individuals with one common goal: restoring the world’s lost forests. The GPFLR has learning sites in Burundi, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Australia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Albania, Kosovo, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and United States of America. The GPFLR also hosts a learning network for restoration practitioners.

Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative

The Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative (GGWSSI) is a pan-African programme that aims to reverse land degradation and desertification in the Sahel and Sahara, boost food security and support local communities to adapt to climate change.

IMFN – the International Model Forest Network

The IMFN is a global community of practice whose members and supporters work toward the common goal of the sustainable management of forest-based landscapes through the Model Forest approach. IMFN has Regional Model Forest Networks in the following regions: Africa, Asia, Canada, Ibero-America, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and Russia.

International Partnership for Satoyama Initiative

The Satoyama Initiative aims to conserve sustainable human-influenced natural environments (Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes: SEPLS) through broader global recognition of their value. Includes case studies of landscapes in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

IUCN Livelihoods and Landscapes

The Livelihoods and Landscapes Strategy (LLS) is a global initiative that examines the rights and access of the rural poor to forest products in the context of the entire landscape in which people and forests interact.

TerrAfrica is a NEPAD-led partnership present in 24 countries on the African continent that supports innovative solutions to sustain landscapes, address land and water degradation and adapt to a changing climate.

The Practitioners’ Network for Large Landscape Conservation

The Practitioners’ Network for Large Landscape Conservation is an alliance of North American professionals and citizens engaged in leading, managing, researching, advocating, funding, educating or setting policy to advance large landscape conservation initiatives. The site includes a Learning Platform.

Savory Network

The Savory Institute supports local individuals and organizations to establish self-sustaining Savory Hubs. Hubs provide Holistic Management training and implementation support for farmers, ranchers, and land managers, focusing on livestock operations to restore and sustain healthy, biodiverse and productive grassland landscapes. There are currently 17 Savory Hubs around the world, and a network of accredited professionals who train others in their area in holistic management practices.
